Harry Potter And Human Biology

From Vanity Fair:

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has said he’s sorry to anyone who was hurt by J.K. Rowling’s recent comments on transgender identity, and that he hoped fans of her wizarding world books will still draw strength and happiness from the Potter stories.

The blog post on The Trevor Project site came Monday evening, after Rowling created an uproar over the weekend on Twitter with comments roundly criticized for being dismissive of trans women. She began by retweeting an article that referred to menstruation without ascribing one gender to those who menstruate. “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” Rowling tweeted.

Radcliffe presented a firm counter on Monday, writing on The Trevor Project blog, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”
